Week 6 Devlog -Game Release

This week focused on finishing the game so that it is playable and that it has 3D models for all items and character models so that sections of the game weren’t still being grey boxed. Feedback from testing the game has also been incorporating into the game.

Title Art:

New title art has been added to replace the placeholder that has been used throughout development! The page theme has also been changed to better fit the theme of the game itself.

Models:

Models for the druid and wolf (both player characters) have now been added to the game as well as the model for the game level.

The wolf and bear have also had their movement animations added.

Audio:

Audio has been added to several elements of the game including:

  • The time trial. There are now sound effects to let the player know when the trial is started, completed, or failed.
  • The push blocks. The blocks now make a grinding sound as they are pushed across the ground.
  • Changing animal forms.
  • Obtaining a new form.
  • Jumping.

There is also ambient background music that plays throughout the first level.

Incorporated Feedback:

The camera controls have now been changed to mouse-controlled instead of rotating around the player by pressing the “A” and “D” key. The camera also now detects collisions with walls so that the player character is always in focus.

During testing players often were unsure of what to do or how to progress in the game. To help with this some hints have been added throughout the game to guide the player to their next objective.

Push blocks previously had various issues such as catching on invisible triggers or moving in ways that the player didn’t expect, like not affected by gravity. To fix this these have now been replaced by simpler physics based blocks.

Settings:

Setting that the player can set to change and customize gameplay have also been added that can be accessed from the title screen.
